Starting off this report with some great news, our 7th-grade girls' basketball team has its season starting on a high note with an undefeated record of 5-0. The team has new coaches this season, Chad Gruver and Al Sparks. Coach Gruver is returning to JH girls basketball coaching after a few seasons off, and Coach Sparks is a former state champion coach. When asked what game they're looking forward to the most, the girls say they’re looking forward to ‘beating the Marquette girls’ as they are rivals.
The 8th-grade girls have not started on such a strong note, with a record of 1-3. We interviewed a couple of players to get their thoughts. When asked what she looks forward to, Kinley Jorgensen said, “I’m looking forward to another win”. Another player, Tatum Petersen, said she believes “in order to win, the team needs to work as a team and have good sportsmanship”.
Our JH boys now have a wrestling team with Northeast. Their season just started, and one wrestler said he is looking forward to their meet in Maquoketa and working better with his teammates. Dawson Yaddof also said he thinks the team needs to “practice and persevere” in order to get better and win in their season.
